Our First Place Cookie Recipe
from Karen Schlosser

  • 1 Cup  Brown Sugar, packed
  • 1 Cup  Butter, softened
  • ½ Cup Agave (honey can be substituted)
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Cocoa
  • 2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 1½ Cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Natural Turbinado Sugar

Mix brown sugar, butter, honey and eggs.  Add chocolate chips.  Then mix in baking soda, cayenne pepper, cocoa, salt and lastly, flour.

Heat convection oven to 300° (conventional oven 325-350° – your preference).  Shape dough using a cookie scoop (I use a #60, .56 oz.).  Drop into natural turbinado sugar, roll balls in sugar.  Place balls about 3 inches apart on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Bake just until set, 12-15 minutes (depending on oven temperature).

Note:  a single batch makes 3-4 dozen cookies depending on size of cookie scoop used.  Recipe may be doubled.
